Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav will launch a new fleet of 102 Thalli Bidda Express vehicles at Narasaraopet on August 11. According to a press release issued by the Health Department on Monday, the modernised vehicles have been designed to ensure safer and more convenient transportation for pregnant women and mothers. The State government is procuring 500 vehicles.
In the first phase, 300 vehicles will be introduced, with the remaining 200 to be rolled out later. The vehicles will be equipped with air-conditioning, six airbags, rear seat belts, child-lock sliding doors, GPS tracking, SOS buttons and other safety features. They will also have charging ports and first-aid kits, besides carrying health-awareness messages on breastfeeding, newborn care, nutrition and vaccinations.
The government has entrusted the operation of the service to the Vidyaveda Foundation and M/s Srinivasa Tours and Travels consortium. It has proposed a budget of โน37.40 crore for the service in 2026โ27. The upgraded 102 service is aimed at reducing transportation difficulties and improving maternal and newborn care, thereby contributing to a reduction in maternal and infant mortality in the State.
Free drop-back services will be available only to women who deliver at government hospitals. The mother and infant can be accompanied by two attendants. The toll-free 102 service can be accessed from any phone in the State.
