Kadapa police arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly killing his daughter and mother in a brutal manner. The double murder case has been registered based on the post-mortem report and circumstantial evidence. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath said that accused had been identified as Chevitivandla Babu, a resident of Dandora Colony, Ramanjaneyapuram, in Kadapa. The deceased, his 22-year-old daughter, Harika, was pursuing B. Tech at Annamacharya College in Rajampet. While studying in Intermediate, Harika reportedly fell in love with a young man. Babu, who learned about the matter subsequently spoke to the young man’s parents, who agreed to a marriage between the two after she completed her education.
In the meantime, she used to allegedly spoke with the young man over phone and even at their house. As she was reportedly neglecting her studies and failed in her examinations, the accused made Harika discontinue her college education, kept her at home and confiscated her mobile phone. Whenever he and his wife went out for work, they allegedly left Harika inside the house and locked the door from outside. Meanwhile, the accused brought his mother, Obulamma, to Kadapa and kept her at the house to look after Harika. Out of affection for her granddaughter, Obulamma, used to give her mobile phone to Harika, through which she allegedly continued speaking with other boys.
After coming to know about this, Babu allegedly assaulted her with a pestle on August 3, causing her death, the police said. He then tied her hands and neck with a ‘chunni’ and left her body in the bedroom. Later, he allegedly killed his mother in the agricultural fields near Machupalle village of Siddavatam mandal of the district, the police added. On the same night, the accused allegedly visited the house of his younger brother Raghunath at Kothapalle village in the same mandal and attempted to murder his sister-in-law Ayyavaramma on the grounds that she was not living properly with his brother.
However, she managed to escape from the accused. After committing the offences, the accused remained absconding to evade arrest by the police. Pursuing his movements on CCTV footages, RIMS and Ontimitta police officials apprehended the accused. A motorcycle and three mobile phones were seized from him.
