Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif (REUTERS file) Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the need for dialogue to address the ongoing issues in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), while also warning against those attempting to create unrest in the region.
Sharif said grievances should be addressed through discussions and indicated that the government would remain open to talks with the Awami Action Committee (JAAC). Speaking on the situation, Sharif said, “If there are any issues, they should be resolved by sitting at the table and through dialogue." He also expressed hope that the dialogue process would continue under the new government. “Even today, I believe that when the new government comes into power, the process of continuing dialogue with protestors will move forward," he said. The remarks came amid continuing concerns over the situation in PoK and demands raised by the Awami Action Committee.
PM Warns Against Chaos And Anarchy While backing dialogue, Sharif drew a line against those he believes are attempting to disturb peace in the region. “Those who are bent on creating trouble and spreading anarchy there will not be allowed to do so," the Pakistan PM said. He added that the government would take a different approach towards those willing to engage peacefully and discuss their concerns. ‘Doors Open’ For Peaceful Discussions Sharif said people who want to raise their concerns through peaceful means would be given an opportunity to do so. “However, for those who want to discuss issues with peace, patience, and tolerance, the new government will provide them with this opportunity," he said.
