The declaration was made after the Ministers visited the residence of Gautam Krishna, a fisher who went missing at sea, to express their condolences and offer support to his grieving family members. During the visit, the Ministers added that state-of-the-art systems for weather forecasting and emergency rescue operations would be implemented, serving as a model for the entire nation.
They also revealed plans to formulate comprehensive projects focused on ensuring coastal security and preventing coastal erosion. Reassuring the family that intensive search and rescue efforts are actively continuing, the Ministers affirmed that the government will extend all necessary support to them. Echoing the government’s commitment, Deputy Speaker Shanimol Osman also visited the residence to comfort the family members and assure them of complete government backing.
She said that the State will equip emergency teams with superior rescue tools and establish advanced disaster prevention and mitigation frameworks to avert similar tragedies in the future. The high-level visits follow a crushing tragedy
that struck the family on July 31, when their fishing boat capsized near Neendakara, just meters from shore. The disaster claimed the lives of Gautam’s grandfather and father while the 26-year-old fisher remains missing at sea.
