Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of misleading the people over the student protests in Delhi's Jantar Mantar and deliberately disrupting Parliament proceedings. He stressed that the government was prepared to discuss every issue, including the developments at Jantar Mantar. Addressing the media, Nadda rejected allegations that police had opened fire on protesting students at Jantar Mantar, calling the claim "false" and accusing the Congress of spreading misinformation. 'WHY ARE THEY RUNNING AWAY FROM DISCUSSION?' Questioning the Congress's stand, Nadda asked why Rahul Gandhi was avoiding a discussion despite repeatedly demanding debates on various issues. "The Home Minister is ready to answer every question. If that is the case, why are they running away from the discussion?" he said. The BJP president alleged that Rahul Gandhi was "changing the goalpost every day" and claimed the Opposition was more interested in creating confrontation than constructive dialogue. "Their objective is not dialogue but dispute. They do not want the House to function," Nadda said, alleging that the Opposition had disrupted Parliament for the past 15 days.
'GOVT READY TO DISCUSS ISSUES' He further claimed that the government had agreed to discussions on all issues sought by the Opposition, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, inflation and the developments at Jantar Mantar, but alleged that Congress members chose not to participate. Referring to the student protests in Jharkhand, Nadda questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence over the agitation, claiming that barbed wire barricades had been erected against protesting students in the state. He alleged that the Congress, as part of the ruling alliance in Jharkhand, was ignoring the concerns of students there while criticising the Centre over the Delhi protests.
Accusing Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of adopting "double standards", Nadda alleged that the party was creating "anarchy" and indulging in "negative politics" instead of engaging in constructive debate. "I want to state very clearly that the double standards adopted by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, creating anarchy, engaging in negative politics, and playing the role of an irresponsible opposition do nothing for the country's future or its progress," he said.
