Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys and chairperson, Axilor Ventures, on Monday outlined three main responsibilities that need to be addressed in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). Gopalakrishnan, delivering the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) Founder’s Day lecture on "Intelligence era and science", said there were three main responsibilities in the age of AI. “The first is the role of humans in this context and how we need to treat AI as an extension of human ability rather than a substitute for our judgement.
The second is the role of trust, and how the scientific method of testing and verifying is even more important to ensure that the new era of AI remains trustworthy and reliable. The third is that of sustainability and affordability, and whether India can lead the effort in using AI to design more efficient computing systems with lower energy consumption.” He also spoke on how AI is beginning to change how scientific discovery happens, the responsibilities that accompany this power, the role of India in this venture, and how Bengaluru is uniquely placed in India and globally to bring together a vast and diverse tradition of scientific excellence needed for the challenge.
