A resolution has been moved in the Tamil Nadu Assembly making it mandatory for the Tamil state anthem, Tamil Thai Vaalthu, to be sung first at official state events, ahead of Vande Mataram and the national anthem. The move received support across political parties, including the TVK, DMK, and AIADMK.
It was stated that the anthem expresses the love and courage of Tamilians and is not against Indian unity. The DMK supported the resolution and demanded legal action against anyone violating it, urging legislation on the matter. The resolution follows central guidelines regarding official event song protocols.
