Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand reviewed policing in Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts and directed officers to step up efforts against cybercrime, marijuana smuggling, road accidents and food adulteration. During the review meeting, Mr. Anand said cybercrime was increasingly spreading beyond metropolitan centres to smaller towns and rural areas. Even educated and financially aware people were falling victim to sophisticated online frauds, he said. Several retired employees lost their retirement savings after being lured into fake online investment schemes promising unusually high returns, he said, stressing the need for stronger cyber crime awareness campaigns and investigations aimed at identifying fraud networks. The DGP also identified Bhupalpally and Mulugu as sensitive districts from the perspective of marijuana transportation and illegal trade.
He directed the police to intensify surveillance on organised networks transporting narcotics from neighbouring states and take stringent legal action against those involved. Road safety was another key issue discussed during the review. Anand said illegal parking and other traffic violations were contributing to fatal accidents and noted that the government was working towards strengthening highway patrolling and establishing a dedicated Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau for scientific traffic enforcement and accident prevention. Anand said the police would coordinate with other departments to intensify action against food adulteration. Those involved in manufacturing or selling adulterated food products would face stringent legal action, he said. The review also covered infrastructure gaps in Bhupalpally and Mulugu.
The DGP said efforts would be made to secure budgetary allocations to address deficiencies and improve working conditions for police personnel. He said the police were also interacting with families affected by Left-Wing Extremist violence and facilitating government assistance, including financial support and welfare benefits, wherever eligible. Anand reviewed crime trends and the progress of investigations in both districts and directed officers to strengthen crime prevention measures. On land disputes, he said police would act strictly according to the law after verifying documents and facts, and warned that no one would be allowed to disturb public order in the name of land disputes. On women’s safety, the DGP said changing social conditions had contributed to an increase in family and women-related issues.
