A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death in Delhi's Rohini area after he allegedly stepped in when one of the accused confronted his brother over the repayment of a Rs 700 loan, police said on Monday. Police said three men have been arrested in the case, including an e-rickshaw driver with 10 previous theft cases who is listed as a bad character at Begumpur police station. The victim, identified as Mukesh Yadav, was attacked on Sunday and died in hospital in the early hours of Monday. He was first taken to Aggarsain Hospital and was later referred to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after his condition worsened. Police said he died there at around 2:18 am on Monday. Police said Mukesh's brother Satish had borrowed Rs 700 from the accused, Sachin alias Sagar, 29, an e-rickshaw driver. Sachin had allegedly been asking for the money back, but Satish had not repaid it. "On Sunday, Sachin confronted Satish and demanded the money. Mukesh intervened after hearing the commotion and tried to defend his brother, following which an altercation broke out," a senior police officer said.
During the alleged altercation, Sachin stabbed Mukesh, causing a serious injury to his right shoulder, the officer said. After receiving a PCR call from Aggarsain Hospital about the stabbing, police said crime and Forensic Science Laboratory teams inspected the spot, a road between Bharat Vihar and Pansali in Sector 33. Bloodstains were found at the scene, police added. After Mukesh's death, police registered a case at Begumpur police station, identified three suspects and carried out raids at different hotels and lodges before arresting all of them. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed their involvement in the crime.
"The accused were identified as Sachin, Pankaj alias Bhura (23), another e-rickshaw driver, and Abhishek alias Atal (22), an auto driver. Pankaj and Abhishek have no previous criminal involvement," the officer said. Police said further investigation is underway. The case centres on an alleged argument over a Rs 700 loan that ended in Mukesh Yadav being fatally stabbed, with three men now under arrest and the investigation continuing. Ends With PTI inputs
