Alleging that several farmers in his constituency had not received the insurance amount, Aland MLA B.R. Patil has sought an inquiry into alleged discrepancies in the disbursal of compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). In a press release, Mr. Patil stated that farmers from Aland taluk had enrolled in large numbers in the scheme, trusting the government, but were now complaining that the insurance amount had not been credited to their accounts.
He alleged that officials from the Agriculture Department had failed to provide clear information and were claiming that the amounts had been transferred to farmers’ bank accounts. In some gram panchayats, including Khajuri and Duttargaon in Aland taluk, farmers were reportedly being told that their crops were not eligible for insurance compensation. Patil said the farmers, already facing the impact of drought, were making repeated visits to the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and agriculture officials.
He demanded a detailed inquiry into the matter, identification of those responsible and strict action against officials found guilty of negligence. He also urged the authorities to take up works under the VB-G RAM G employment guarantee scheme in all gram panchayats in Kalaburagi district, citing the lack of rainfall and the deteriorating financial condition of farmers and agricultural labourers.
Patil said such works would provide immediate income support to rural households. He warned that he would launch a protest if the authorities failed to address the farmers’ issues immediately.
