Eight people from Assam were allegedly injured after miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh opened fire at Mingmang Basti along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Dhemaji district on Sunday morning, officials said. According to preliminary information, the incident followed a dispute between two groups over alleged encroachment by people from Arunachal Pradesh on land in Assam.
The disagreement reportedly escalated, with the group from across the border allegedly opening indiscriminate fire at residents of Assam. The injured have been identified as Durgheswar Patir, Rohit Dole, Nagaraj Dole, Biggeshwar Patir, Pame Pegu, Sanjay Tayung, Utpal Dole and Jan Dole.
All eight injured were initially taken to the Gogamukh Rural Hospital for treatment. However, seven of them were later referred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital after their condition was reported to be critical. The incident has raised fresh concerns along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, where disputes over land and alleged encroachment have previously led to tensions between residents of the two states.
