Protesting students in Ranchi, Jharkhand, breached final barricades outside the state Assembly gate after marching nearly six kilometres from the old assembly premises. The students, preparing for competitive examinations, have been demonstrating for over two weeks, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into reported irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) CGL examination and the immediate cancellation of the recruitment process.
Despite facing tear gas, water cannons, and mild police lathi charges, protesters reached Gate Number 1 of the Assembly complex. State government officials resisted the demand for a CBI inquiry, citing a preference for a CID investigation and expressing mistrust in the central agency's past record. Reporters on the ground noted that the demonstration remained student-led and non-political, featuring national flags and placards focused strictly on examination reforms rather than demands for political resignations or government overthrow.
