Khiyangte was taken into custody after more than seven rounds of questioning, sources said. His formal arrest is yet to be confirmed. The development comes during the CID probe into alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination and other recruitment exams. The former JPSC chairman had earlier resigned following allegations of examination irregularities. The CID had also questioned him several times and conducted searches at his government residence and the JPSC office, seizing documents, OMR sheets and digital evidence. Earlier, Khiyangte’s computer operator Dharmendra was arrested, sources said. The CID is also probing the decision to award the JPSC examination contract to TDPL, a company that was allegedly blacklisted.

Investigators suspect the contract decision may have involved a quid pro quo, sources said. Khiyangte has denied involvement in any wrongdoing. The development comes as students continue to protest in Ranchi. JLKM MLA Jairam Kumar Mahato has criticised the police action against protesters and said the demonstration was peaceful.
