BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday (August 10, 2026) urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to instruct officials of the Water
BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday (August 10, 2026) urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to instruct officials of the Water Resources Department (WRD) to inspect the Mettur dam catchment area in Dharmapuri district, where water was reportedly contaminated.
Referring to a media report about the Mettur dam catchment area near Eriyur in Dharmapuri district, Mr. Nagenthran said that a foul smell filled the vicinity and that the public health of nearby villages was being affected.
Due to effluents, the water has turned green in the catchment area, he said. He pointed out that the neighbouring villages used the water for drinking and irrigation purposes. Nagenthran further urged the CM to instruct officials to inspect the area to find out the cause for the contamination.
He also urged officials to carry out inspection of waterbodies across the State to ensure their proper maintenance.
