(Representational) Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has provided 2,44,468 cashless treatments worth more than Rs 316.50 crore through its 10 most frequently availed procedures, according to data from the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab. Chronic haemodialysis is the most frequently availed procedure under the scheme, with 1,87,656 dialysis sessions provided at a cost of more than Rs 30.65 crore.

The scheme covers a range of treatments across multiple medical specialties, including kidney care, cardiac procedures, orthopaedic surgeries and maternity care. Laparoscopic gall bladder surgery is the second most availed procedure, with 17,698 procedures provided under the scheme. This is followed by 10,751 Total Knee Replacement surgeries. The scheme has also covered 9,317 Caesarean deliveries, providing cashless maternity care to women. In cardiac care, 8,734 patients underwent Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) along with diagnostic angiography, while 554 patients underwent Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). For kidney stone treatment, 5,770 Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures have been covered. The other procedures among the top 10 include 2,247 lower ureter surgeries, 911 Cementless Total Hip Replacement surgeries and 830 radical surgical procedures. Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the figures reflected the importance of ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent patients from accessing treatment.

“The true measure of any healthcare programme is not the number of beneficiaries on paper, but the number of families who receive timely treatment without being pushed into financial distress," he said. He added that the range of procedures covered under the scheme showed that it was not limited to routine healthcare but also supported patients requiring specialised and costly treatment. The data shows that dialysis accounts for the largest share of procedures among the top 10, while the scheme also provides coverage for major surgeries involving the heart, knees, hips and urinary system, along with Caesarean deliveries. According to the SHA data, the 10 procedures together account for 2,44,468 cashless treatments with a total value of over Rs 316.50 crore.
