(You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel Singapore's flag carrier has named Aswin K as its new General Manager, India, effective August 1, returning a 12-year company veteran to a key market for the airline.Aswin succeeds Sy Yen Chen, who served as Singapore Airlinesā India general manager for more than five years. In his new role, Aswin will oversee the airlineās operations across India and lead its growth strategy while strengthening relationships with customers, travel trade partners and key industry stakeholders.Aswin joined Singapore Airlines in 2014 as an Aviation Network Analyst and has since held several roles spanning network planning, marketing and commercial operations.He subsequently served as Regional Marketing Manager for West Asia and Africa before becoming State Manager for Karnataka and Telangana, based in Bengaluru.He later took charge as General Manager, Gulf and Middle East, where he oversaw Singapore Airlinesā commercial operations across the region.Before returning to India, Aswin served as General Manager, Italy, a position he took up in 2024.Aswinās return to India puts him in charge of a market where he has previously held a senior commercial role.Based in Mumbai, which serves as Singapore Airlinesā head office for its India operations, he will be responsible for driving the airlineās growth strategy in the country as international travel demand continues to evolve.His mandate will also include deepening ties with travel trade partners, customers and other industry stakeholders.Commenting on his appointment, Aswin said he was honoured to lead Singapore Airlinesā operations in one of the worldās fastest-growing aviation markets.āIndia is a market of strategic importance for Singapore Airlines, and I look forward to connecting with our customers, travel trade partners and industry stakeholders as we continue to strengthen our presence across the country,ā he said.Aswin added that as demand for international travel grows and the aviation landscape changes, Singapore Airlines remains committed to its service and global network.āWe remain committed to delivering our award-winning service and world-class products via our extensive global network,ā he said.Aswin takes over from Sy Yen Chen, who led Singapore Airlinesā India operations for more than five years.The airline said Chenās leadership and experience contributed significantly to its growth in the Indian market during his tenure.The appointment comes as India continues to gain importance for international airlines, with rising demand for overseas travel and an expanding aviation market.Singapore Airlines is also a shareholder in Air India, holding a 25.1% stake in the Tata Group-owned airline following the completion of the Air India-Vistara merger.
