(X/@maheshkote94) Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has raised concerns over the poor condition of a key industrial corridor in Bengaluru, flagging potholes, missing footpaths and inadequate civic infrastructure along the 7-km Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road. ⁦@MBPatil" 7-Km Road Connects Major Industrial Cluster The Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road is a key industrial corridor lined with more than 1,000 companies, including Biocon Park, Micro Labs, Apotex Research, HCL Technologies’ SEZ campus, Carl Zeiss India, Sansera Engineering and Toyota Industries Engine India, according to a recent Times of India report. The road has deteriorated significantly, with only around 2 km described as reasonably motorable. A two-wheeler ride along the stretch recorded nearly 350 jolts and bumps despite efforts to avoid damaged portions, the report said. The poor condition of the road has also affected commute times. Residents and commuters told the Times of India that journeys that earlier took around 15-20 minutes can now take nearly an hour. Missing Footpaths Add To Commuters’ Problems The problems on the corridor extend beyond potholes. Large sections of the road reportedly do not have footpaths, forcing pedestrians to walk alongside moving traffic.

The stretch has also faced infrastructure and maintenance concerns in the past. In 2021, The New Indian Express reported that a roughly 6-km stretch of the Jigani-Bommasandra Link Road had no functioning streetlights, with residents saying the road served several multinational companies and thousands of employees. Road Maintenance Under PWD According to the Times of India, development and maintenance of the industrial area were earlier handled by the Bommasandra Industrial Area Committee. After the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) took over, the Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road was subsequently handed over to the Public Works Department for maintenance and future development. The road’s condition has also prompted improvement plans. A 2026 KIADB tender called for reconstruction and resurfacing of 12-metre and 18-metre roads in the Bommasandra-Jigani Link Road Industrial Area, along with the construction of RCC side drains and cross drainage.
