A political storm has erupted in West Bengal after former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's convoy was targeted in Halisahar. Protesters blocked the Trinamool Congress leader's vehicle, hurling stones, bottles, shoes, and smearing mud while raising slogans. The incident occurred while Banerjee was on her way to meet the family of a deceased TMC worker who allegedly died in police custody. Trinamool Congress leaders strongly condemned the attack, accusing Bharatiya Janata Party workers of orchestrating the violence with police inaction.
On the other hand, the BJP has rubbished the allegations, stating that the party has no involvement in the incident and does not endorse violence. The state leadership asserted that strict action would be taken if any party worker is found involved. Despite the chaos, Banerjee met the family of the deceased worker before security forces cleared the crowd and escorted her back to her residence.
