Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said his government would deliver justice with full transparency to youths protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. He said the students’ concerns were also his concerns and promised strict action against those found guilty. Soren also said the agitation should not be politicised and alleged that vested interests were trying to disrupt democracy in the state. I promise the exam protesters that justice will be delivered with full transparency.” Referring to the protest against the alleged NEET exam paper leak at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, he said, “All saw how youths were tortured, had to face pellet guns, baton charges, and were declared traitors.” Apparently targeting the BJP, Soren accused rival political parties of spreading lies and misinformation to mislead Jharkhand’s youth and said some intellectuals were also involved in this. “The stir should not be politicised; I warn those harbouring political ambitions against misguiding youths,” he said.

Reiterating his government’s stand, Soren added, “Those guilty of irregularities will face strict action. We caught theft, will deliver justice.” He also urged the protesters not to seek political patronage, saying, “Justice is your right.” The students’ protest against the alleged recruitment exam irregularities entered its 16th day on Sunday, with six demonstrators on an indefinite hunger strike. A sixth round of talks between the government and the agitators was being held at the state guest house in Ranchi. Apart from reforms in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission, the protesters are seeking an independent probe into the alleged irregularities, either by the CBI or by a panel of retired high court judges from outside the state.

Overall, Soren’s message was that the government would address the protesters’ demands through talks while taking action against those responsible for any wrongdoing. Ends
