A delegation of BJP leaders on Sunday petitioned Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, urging him not to accept the resignation of Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, on the grounds that he was allegedly forced to quit by the Congress leaders. In the petition to the Governor, the BJP delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, alleged that Congress leaders including Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad and MLC Saleem Ahmed, who is tipped to become the next Chairman of the Council, had illegally forced Mr. Horatti to resign.
The BJP delegation alleged that the Congress leaders had gone to the office of Mr. Horatti and brought pressure on him to resign immediately though he wanted to quit during the forthcoming Monsoon Session. The BJP leaders described the alleged action by the Congress leaders as illegal and anti-Constitutional.
They urged the Governor not to accept Mr. Horatti’s resignation and order an inquiry into the episode. They wanted the Congress leaders who allegedly brought
pressure on Mr. Horatti to face legal action.
