The Rajiv Rahadari Property Ownersâ Joint Action Committee (JAC) has announced a one-day hunger strike on Tuesday against the proposed widening of Rajiv Rahadari and the ongoing land acquisition process for the elevated corridor project, alleging that authorities have failed to address the concerns of affected property owners. The protest will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ambedkar Statue in Karkhana.
According to the JAC, several affected property owners have approached the Telangana High Court, challenging aspects of the road widening and land acquisition process. The committee alleged that the government had not yet filed its counter in the pending petitions, even as Collectorate officials were continuing with the land acquisition process. The JAC has also questioned the continuation of the acquisition process when the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project is yet to be finalised.
It has sought clarity on the proposed alignment, road width, properties likely to be affected and the compensation package before further proceedings are taken up. The committee also alleged that some property owners had received calls from Collectorate officials, urging them to accept the compensation being offered and warning that they could lose the compensation if they did not accept it immediately.
âWe are not opposed to development or the road widening process, but development should not result in people losing their properties, businesses and livelihoods without fair compensation,â said JAC chairman Telukunta Satish Gupta.
