Supporters of MLA Tanveer Sait staged a demonstration at the Manipal Hospital junction on the BengaluruâMysuru Highway on Sunday, protesting against the denial of a Cabinet berth to their leader, a si time MLA. This was the second such protest by Mr. Saitâs supporters. Earlier, they had staged demonstrations at several locations in Udayagiri after he, despite being a strong aspirant for a ministerial berth, was not inducted into the D.K. Shivakumar Cabinet.
A large number of supporters, including women, from the Narasimharaja Assembly constituency gathered at the junction, affecting the smooth movement of traffic on the busy stretch. The protest resulted in a traffic jam, which was later cleared by the traffic police after detaining and subsequently releasing the protesters. Disappointed over the denial of a ministerial berth to Mr. Sait, the protesters raised slogans against the Congress leadership, accusing it of ignoring their leader, a senior party member who has won the Narasimharaja constituency six times.
Sait had openly expressed his disappointment over being denied a ministerial berth and termed it an injustice to the people of the constituency. His supporters
had even demanded that he resign as MLA in protest. However, senior party leaders have assured the supporters that they would look into the issue.
