According to police, the accused, identified as Dharam Singh, allegedly approached the woman from behind and used a wire to constrict her neck, causing her to lose consciousness. “He raped her after she blacked out due to the strangulation," Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 1) Neeraj Badgujar said, according to The Indian Express. After the alleged assault, Singh reportedly fled after bolting the terrace door from outside. The woman regained consciousness and raised an alarm. Residents on the fifth floor heard her cries and opened the terrace door, following which police were alerted and an FIR was registered. How Police Tracked The Accused Police formed 10 teams drawn from different police stations to investigate the case.
Investigators examined footage from CCTV cameras in the area and eventually traced the accused near Hebatpur in Thaltej, Badgujar said. Singh has been arrested and his medical examination has been conducted. He is being interrogated, police said. According to police, Singh had started working as a security guard at the housing society only four days before the alleged incident. He had previously worked at another residential complex in Ahmedabad. Police said the woman is pursuing a higher education degree in a branch of design. The investigation into the alleged assault is underway.
