The Bengaluru police have arrested a 63-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife in southeast Bengaluru’s Vivek Nagar on Friday night (August 7). The accused has been identified as Jerry Anthony, a ragpicker. He allegedly strangled his wife, Geetha, 50, and fled from the scene.
According to the police, both were ragpickers and had married about six years ago. The couple used to live in an abandoned vehicle near the Austin Town BDA complex. A preliminary police probe revealed that around 9.30 p.m. on Friday, Anthony and Geetha went to Vivek Nagar to collect scrap materials near a garbage blackspot on 4th Main Road connecting to Ejipura Main Road.
While Geetha was segregating garbage, Anthony allegedly strangled her with her veil before fleeing the spot. An investigator in the case said Anthony claimed that Geetha had a drinking habit and would pick fights every day. Even on Friday, she allegedly picked a fight with Anthony after drinking, which led to the incident.
The Vivek Nagar police have booked Anthony under Section 103 of the BNS and have arrested him.
