That is the plot of the Bollywood film, ‘Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl’, but something more serious, and unfortunately similar happened, in Uttar Pradesh. A BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh has alleged that his family was duped after his his daughter married a man accused of deceiving multiple women through fake identities.
The police has registered an FIR in the case, according to a PTI report. Sevata MLA Gyan Tiwari said he filed a complaint after discovering that his son-in-law, Prakhar Trivedi, was allegedly involved in a wider pattern of fraud. Police have since arrested Prakhar and his father, Anuj Trivedi, in connection with the case. The MLA also made the allegations public in a social media video posted on August 6, where he appeared alongside his daughter. According to the complaint lodged at Reusa police station, Tiwari’s daughter Pragya married Prakhar Trivedi in 2024. The MLA alleged that at the time, Anuj Trivedi had presented himself as a well-established Mumbai-based real estate businessman, while concealing his alleged criminal background and pending cases. Multiple Marriages And Fraud The MLA said the marriage was finalised after local inquiries and favourable feedback from people considered influential in the area. However, around two-and-a-half years later, the family began receiving information through social media and other sources about Prakhar Trivedi’s alleged activities.
Tiwari has alleged that Prakhar cheated several women across different states, including Maharashtra, by entering into relationships under false identities and extracting large sums of money. He further claimed that the accused had been involved in nearly 25 marriages. Following these revelations, the MLA said he cut all ties with the accused family and brought his daughter back home. He added that the episode had caused significant emotional distress and also affected his public image. Police Action And Investigation Police officials said a case has been registered against Anuj Trivedi on charges of cheating, and legal proceedings are underway. Both Anuj and Prakhar Trivedi have been taken into custody as part of the investigation. In his video statement, Tiwari demanded strict action against the accused, even calling for the death penalty for Anuj Trivedi. He also said that if his son-in-law is found guilty, he should face the harshest punishment under the law. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the scope of the alleged fraud or the number of victims, as the investigation continues.
