Speaking to BBC’s Newsnight, Hunter Biden said the cancer had continued to spread and described the impact of the disease on his 83-year-old father as severe.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further," Hunter Biden said, adding, “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects." Joe Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025, shortly after leaving the White House. His office said at the time that the cancer had already spread to his bones. The diagnosis was described as a high-grade cancer with a Gleason score of 9, while his representatives said it was hormone-sensitive and could be managed. The former US President subsequently underwent treatment, with a spokesperson saying in October that he was receiving radiation therapy and hormone treatment.
Despite his illness, Joe Biden has continued to make public appearances. He attended the dedication of former President Barack Obama’s presidential library in Chicago in June. Joe Biden served as Obama’s vice president from 2009 to 2017 before winning the 2020 presidential election. He left office in January 2025 after serving one term as president. His health had remained a major subject of public scrutiny during his presidency, particularly following concerns about his age and fitness for office. He eventually ended his 2024 re-election campaign and was replaced as the Democratic nominee by Kamala Harris.
