(Photo: X) Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Police action over alleged liquor violation at an Indore eatery has led to the preventive detention of five people, including the two elder brothers of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered in Meghalaya. Three employees of their eatery were placed under preventive arrest on Saturday, a police official said. The action was taken after police found that liquor was allegedly being served to customers at the establishment without the required licence.
Brothers, employees booked under BNSS Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhi Saxena said the eatery operators had not obtained a licence to serve alcohol. The food establishment, which falls under the jurisdiction of Rau police station, is owned by Raja’s elder brothers, Sachin Raghuvanshi and Vipin Raghuvanshi. Police arrested the two siblings along with three employees of the eatery as a precautionary measure under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The provision allows a police officer to arrest a person without a warrant or an order from a magistrate if the officer has information that the person is planning to commit a cognisable offence. Cases registered over illegal liquor According to ACP Saxena, police have registered a case under the Excise Act over the alleged illegal serving of liquor at the eatery. A separate case has also been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience of an order issued by a public servant.
The case was registered after the establishment allegedly failed to provide information to police. The preventive action against the Raghuvanshi brothers and the three employees comes months after the murder of Raja in Meghalaya, which had drawn widespread attention. What happened to Raja Raghuvanshi? Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon a few days after their marriage last year. During the trip, Raja was murdered. The case was subsequently investigated by the Meghalaya Police, which later arrested Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three alleged hired killers. The latest preventive arrests in Indore are linked to the alleged illegal serving of liquor at the eatery owned by Raja’s elder brothers. Police said the action was taken after discovering that alcohol was being served without a licence.
