Reported by NDTV, the accused was detained at a Toronto airport on Friday after months on the run. Himanshi Khurana, 30, was found dead at a residence on December 20, with police earlier describing the case as an “act of intimate partner violence".

Her partner, Abdul Ghafoori, was wanted on a charge of first-degree murder. Toronto Police said officers from its fugitive squad and homicide unit worked closely with agencies in Canada and abroad to locate and apprehend him. Authorities, however, did not disclose the country he had been staying in before his arrest. How The Case Unfolded The case began on the night of December 19, when police received a missing person report from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. A search operation was launched immediately, and officers found Khurana’s body inside a house in the same locality at about 6:30 AM the next morning. Investigators later confirmed the death as a homicide. As the probe progressed, police established that Khurana and Ghafoori were in an “intimate partner relationship", which became a key focus of the investigation. Police soon issued a nationwide warrant against Ghafoori and released his photograph, urging the public to share any information that could help trace him.

The case was recorded as Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2025.
