The decision was taken at a meeting of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association, attended by representatives of major cooperative and private dairy companies. The meeting was chaired by association president Gopalrao Mhaske. Why Are Milk Prices Increasing In Maharashtra? The association cited rising input and operating costs behind the price hike. The association said that diesel prices have increased by Rs 10 per litre while packaging costs have risen by around 30 per cent. The procurement price of milk has also increased, with a further rise expected. The association said the increase in costs had made a revision in retail prices necessary. The selling price of both cow and buffalo milk will increase by Rs 2 per litre from August 11. Along with milk, consumers could also have to pay more for other dairy products. The association has decided to increase the prices of dairy products by up to 10 per cent, although the exact increase may vary depending on the product. When Will The New Prices Come Into Effect? The revised prices are scheduled to come into effect from August 11. The hike means households across Maharashtra will have to spend more on their regular milk purchases, while the increase in prices of other dairy products could further raise household food expenses.
