(Image source: X/ @ChetanAhimsa) Actor and activist Chetan Ahimsa on Saturday said he is working to launch a new political party in Karnataka. He said the party will bring together people who share similar views and want an alternative to existing politics. Speaking to reporters, Chetan said the party will be formally launched in January next year.

He added that he has already started travelling across the state to mobilise support and connect with people. He stressed that Karnataka needs a fresh political platform, Times of India reported. Push For A New Platform Chetan said several organisations in the state currently follow different ideologies, including Hindutva. He said his effort aims to unite people who want to move away from these existing agendas and build a new political space. He also criticised the Prajakeeya party, founded in 2018 by another actor and filmmaker Upendra Rao. He said he does not find its ideology clear and remains unconvinced about its direction. He added that most political parties today work for personal interests rather than public welfare. Remarks On Other Leaders Referring to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s TVK, Chetan said the party gained visibility largely because of Vijay’s stardom.

He also spoke about Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Chetan said leaders like Vijay and Kalyan need to engage more directly with people to understand real issues on the ground. “The Tamil Nadu chief minister and the Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister, Pawan Kalyan, would only understand the real issues faced by the public if they directly interacted with people on the ground," he said, as quoted in the report. Chetan also opposed the proposed Bidadi township project. He said he will actively campaign against it and resist its implementation. Taking a potshot at Congress leader and leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, he said, in a tweet posted on X, “Rahul Gandhi advocates against Great Nicobar Project but stays silent on Karnataka’s Bidadi Township, Mekedatu Dam, and rampant mining. Why the double standard? Environmentalism shouldn’t be political." Karnataka has been ruled by a Congress government since 2023.
