(Photo: PTI) The Jharkhand government will hold another round of talks with protesting students on Sunday as the agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations entered its 15th day. The government’s decision came after a series of meetings with different student organisations on Saturday, even as the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, which has been spearheading the agitation, accused the Hemant Soren government of “political manoeuvring". Rural Development Minister Dipika Pandey Singh said the government was actively considering the students’ demand for cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination. 14th JPSC Exam Cancellation Under Consideration Speaking to news agency ANI, Singh said the demand to scrap the 14th JPSC examination was currently being examined by the government. “The students are indeed demanding a cancellation (of the examination), a matter the government is currently considering," she said. The minister said the government stood in solidarity with the protesting aspirants and was looking at bringing about a “remarkable change" in the recruitment system. “We wanted to initiate the dialogue some three to four days back. We sent this proposal to students. We are in solidarity with the students, and we are with their genuine demands, whatever they may be. Since yesterday, we have had a series of consultations," Singh said. She said a dedicated committee was reviewing the issues raised by the students and Chief Minister Hemant Soren had been briefed about the progress of the discussions.

“The committee has been meeting now. We have apprised our Chief Minister about it. I’m sure that very soon we’ll reach a conclusion. Students have come up with very good suggestions and very genuine concerns they have raised, and the government is ready to resolve those," Singh added. Sixth Round Of Talks Scheduled For Sunday According to news agency PTI, the state government held four rounds of meetings with different student groups on Saturday, including the Congress’ student wing NSUI, Jharkhand Chhatra Manch and Adivasi Chhatra Sangh. This came a day after the government held discussions with the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, the main group leading the agitation. With five rounds of talks failing to resolve the deadlock, the government decided to hold another round of discussions with student representatives at around 12 pm on Sunday. The decision was taken after a four-hour meeting between the government panel and Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday evening. Singh said the panel had briefed the Chief Minister about the demands and concerns raised by the various student delegations. The government committee comprises ministers Dipika Pandey Singh, Sudivya Kumar, Chamra Linda and Sanjay Prasad Yadav. Student Group Accuses Govt Of ‘Political Manoeuvring’ The announcement of another round of talks, however, triggered a sharp response from the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch. Ravindra Paswan, a leader of the group, accused the government of attempting to create divisions within the student movement by holding separate discussions with different organisations. “This is political manoeuvring by the government. It is trying to create a divide among students and divert attention. But they should know that all students are united," Paswan said at a press conference at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, where students have been protesting since July 25. Paswan claimed that the Reforms Manch had already placed all its demands before the five-member government panel during a detailed meeting on Friday night.
