'Such An Unpatriotic Thing': Trump Blasts US House Vote To End Iran War Amid Peace Talks Published By, Last Updated: June 04, 2026, 18:19 IST Trump slammed the US House vote urging withdrawal of troops from the Iran war, calling it unpatriotic and saying it disrupts his final negotiations with Tehran. US President Donald Trump. (Source: Reuters) US President Donald Trump on Thursday lashed out at the US House of Representatives after it passed a resolution seeking to restrict his war powers in the ongoing conflict with Iran, calling the move “unpatriotic" and accusing lawmakers of undermining sensitive peace negotiations. The Republican-led House voted 215–208 on Wednesday in favour of a war powers resolution that would block Trump from continuing military operations against Iran unless Congress formally authorises force. Four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the measure. ‘Middle of my final negotiations’ Reacting strongly on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the vote had come at a moment when he is in “right in the middle" of in his final negotiations with Tehran.

“The House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran," he wrote. “Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand." The US president further blamed Democrats for what he called politically motivated obstruction and criticised the Republican lawmakers who backed the resolution, calling them as “grandstanders" who should be ashamed. Trump said the push reflected what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome", adding that opponents would rather see the country fail than accept his negotiating efforts. “The Democrats are fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome. They would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories. The four Republicans… They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves," he noted. What was the vote about? The resolution is largely symbolic at this stage, as it still requires approval from the US Senate and would face legal and constitutional hurdles even if passed.

The vote, nonetheless, reflects unease among some Republicans over Trump’s handling of the conflict and marks a rare bipartisan effort to curb presidential war powers as the war has entered a fourth month. Three previous war powers resolutions had failed in the House by increasingly slim margins and the chamber’s Republican leaders abruptly postponed a vote on this one last month when it looked likely to pass. The four Republicans who broke ranks were Tom Barrett, Warren Davidson, Brian Fitzpatrick and Thomas Massie. No Democrats opposed the resolution. The Senate has previously advanced a similar measure in a procedural vote, but no further action has been scheduled.
