Union minority affairs ministry sources confirmed to CNN-News18 that the Centre is currently seeking legal opinion to determine its next course of action. Among the key documents received from various stakeholders, the government is reviewing papers from local residents and a formal letter submitted by Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrashekhar, alongside community leaders and church representatives.
The Munambam land issue is an ongoing dispute in a coastal village near Kochi, Kerala, where the Kerala State Waqf Board claims ownership of approximately 404 acres of land. This claim threatens to displace over 600 Christian and Hindu fishing families who have resided there for generations and possess valid title deeds. A source emphasised that the government’s primary objective is ensuring equity and safeguarding livelihood security, rather than viewing the dispute through a sectarian lens. “For us, everybody is equal. We are not supporting any Hindu group or Christian group; we are reiterating that the administration’s core governance principle of ‘justice for all, appeasement of none’," said a ministry source.
