AI-generated image used for representation A government primary school in Maihar district of Bihar has come under scrutiny after students and parents accused the headmaster of allegedly turning up drunk, neglecting classes and making children perform tasks that should never have been assigned to them. The allegations have been made against the headmaster of Amura Primary School, where parents claim students are often left without proper teaching or supervision. They also alleged that the school’s midday meal programme has not been functioning properly, reported NDTV. The most serious accusation concerns the headmaster allegedly defecating on the school premises and asking students to clean it afterwards. Students Speak Of ‘Disturbing’ Treatment Students alleged that the headmaster frequently arrives at school under the influence of alcohol and spends time chewing gutkha.
One student claimed that the headmaster would relieve himself inside the school and then make children clean the area. The student also alleged that gutkha was regularly spat across the school premises, as reported by the outlet. A Class 3 student reportedly told NDTV that he had himself been made to clean faeces and was also abused. The child further alleged that the headmaster was unable to teach properly when he came to school drunk. Parents Allege School Opens Late Parents and villagers also raised concerns about the headmaster’s attendance. According to them, there is no fixed schedule and the headmaster sometimes reaches the school as late as 11 am or noon. During his absence, the children are allegedly left to themselves instead of attending regular classes. Parents also claimed that students are asked to sweep the premises and fetch water. Radha Dwivedi, whose child studies at the school, alleged that the headmaster’s conduct had become a regular problem. She claimed that he chews gutkha, spits around the premises and reports to school in an intoxicated condition.
Another parent, Kranti Yadav, alleged that children remain without proper supervision when the headmaster is drunk. She also repeated the allegation that students are made to clean the faeces after he defecates on the premises. Rukmani Bunkar, another student’s mother, claimed that children were not receiving proper food or teaching at the school and alleged that there was no effective supervision. Midday Meal, Gutkha Stains Raise Concerns Parents also alleged that the midday meal scheme has been disrupted. They said children are not consistently receiving meals and that the condition of the school premises has not improved. Gutkha stains were reportedly visible on the walls and other parts of the school. When confronted about the allegations, the headmaster denied the accusations. During an NDTV visit, he was reportedly seen watching YouTube videos on a tablet inside the school. When questioned about the gutkha stains, he reportedly said, “We will clean it up." Education Department Begins Action The allegations have prompted the local education authorities to intervene. Block Education Officer Rajesh Dwivedi said the department had taken note of the matter.
