He was speaking on Saturday during the second day of his extensive tour of drought-affected areas in Raichur district. The Minister inspected agricultural fields in Santekellur, Gurudur, and Hasamkal villages of Maski taluk, Jawalgera and Banniganur villages in Sindhanur taluk, and Potnal village in Manvi taluk.
During the field visits, Mr. Singh interacted with local farmers affected by the prolonged dry spell and insufficient rainfall. He also held discussions with local MLAs, MLCs, and other elected representatives to evaluate the extent of the damage. Highlighting the severity of the crisis, Mr. Singh noted that a major portion of the Kharif crop has withered due to rainfall deficits. “The situation on the ground is extremely worrying.
Normally, Sindhanur and Maski taluks alone account for at least one lakh hectares of cultivation every year. However, this year the sowing area has plummeted to just 12,000 hectares, and even those crops are failing due to short rainfall,” he said. He assured that a comprehensive crop loss report would be prepared immediately to expedite the release of financial relief as per government procedures.
