A special team constituted in the wake of a complaint to Varuna Police station on July 16, 2026, by Ramu, a resident of Muddegowdanahundi, arrested the accused identified as Siddaraju, 47, Anand N., 30, Karthik K.M., 30 and Purushotham, 28. Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Saturday, Superintendent of Mysuru district police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the police are on the lookout for four others. According to the police, Ramu, who was proceeding to his house from his farmhouse on a scooter around 8.30 p.m. on July 15, was intercepted by four accused persons travelling by car.
The accused, who abducted him, snatched a 30-gram gold chain from his neck, two gold rings weighing 10 grams each, and ₹50,000 in cash from his pocket. Then, they demanded around ₹40 lakh for his release from their captivity. Ramu told them that he could arrange ₹16 lakh. After the accused agreed, he obtained the money through his brother-in-law Suresh and handed it over to them. The accused subsequently released him the next day. A team of police personnel led by Mysuru Rural Circle Inspector D.B. Jayaprakash comprising Varuna Police Station Police Sub Inspector Sadashiva Tipparaddi and personnel from the crime detection team, acted on credible information received from informers and through technical analysis took the four accused persons into custody between July 26 and August 4.
During detailed interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they had abducted Ramu in a car on July 15 before snatching his gold ornaments and cash. They also admitted to releasing him only after collecting ₹16 lakh cash. The accused, meanwhile, also revealed their involvement in two other cases of abductions. In one case that took place in November 2025, they had abducted a person named Ravi of Kuppegal village within the limits of Varuna Police Station. They released Ravi after a person named Basappa brought ₹18 lakh from Ravi’s village and handed it to them. The accused further disclosed that around five months ago, they had abducted a person named Suresh and kept him at a layout near Viman Nagar area on Dadadahalli Road, within the limits of Mysuru South Police Station.
They allegedly collected ₹5 lakh from him in exchange for his release. The police have seized ₹4.3 lakh in cash, a car used for the crimes, two two-wheelers and five mobile phones.
