The Kalaburagi Zilla Brahmin Sangha staged a protest in the city on Saturday, demanding adequate representation for the Brahmin community in the State Cabinet and various government corporations and boards. The community leaders and members gathered in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office to express their displeasure over what they described as inadequate representation for the community in the D.K. Shivakumar-led State Cabinet.
Brahmin Sangh District president Pandurang Deshmukh and vice-president Shyamacharya Baichibal urged the State government to ensure appropriate political representation and said the community’s contribution to the State’s development and various fields should be recognised by providing it a fair share in the Cabinet. The protesters also urged the government to consider the names of senior Congress leaders Dinesh Gundu Rao and R.V. Deshpande for inclusion in the State Cabinet.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar through the Deputy Commissioner. The agitators also urged the government to provide opportunities to eligible members of the community in the various government corporations and boards. They called upon the government to consider the community’s demands seriously and take an appropriate decision at the earliest.
The sangha leaders warned that the agitation would continue until the Brahmin community was given equal and dignified representation.
