Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, an accused in the Dombivli doctor assault case, was released from Kalyan's Adharwadi Jail on Saturday evening after completing all legal formalities required under the bail granted by the Bombay High Court. Mhatre walked out of the jail at around 4:45 pm, following the completion of court and prison procedures. The incident, which was captured on CCTV and widely circulated on social media, sparked protests by doctors and healthcare workers, who demanded strict action against those involved. While Mhatre later apologised over the controversy, he denied allegations that he had assaulted a woman doctor. The Shiv Sena also condemned the incident and initiated disciplinary proceedings against him. Despite Saturday being a holiday, the necessary legal and administrative formalities were carried out to facilitate Mhatre's release. The special processing of his release on a non-working day has drawn attention, although officials maintained that all procedures were completed in accordance with the law before he was allowed to leave the prison.
MHATRE TO STAY OUTSIDE MAHARASHTRA? As part of the bail conditions laid down by the Bombay High Court, Mhatre has been directed to remain outside Maharashtra during the period of his bail. According to information available, he will stay in Goa and will be required to mark his attendance regularly at the local police station there, in compliance with the court's directions. Speaking to reporters after his release, Mhatre expressed confidence in the judicial process. "I believe in the court. Justice will prevail," he said, adding that he had full faith in the judiciary and would accept whatever decision the court ultimately delivers in the case.
"I have complete faith in the judiciary. The matter is before the court, and whatever decision the judiciary takes will be acceptable to us," he said. With Mhatre now out on bail, attention is expected to shift to the ongoing court proceedings in the doctor assault case. The matter will continue to be heard on its merits, while Mhatre will remain bound by the conditions imposed by the High Court until further orders. Ends
