Minister Ajay Dharam Singh chaired a meeting with district-level officials and elected representatives at the District Administrative auditorium in Raichur on Saturday to address the worsening drought situation, drinking water scarcity, Kharif seasonal crop loss, fodder availability, and fertiliser supply in the district. The visit comes following directions from Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to assess ground-level crop damage across the district. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Singh stated that he conducted a two-day extensive field inspection, interacting directly with local farmers to understand drought situation triggered by the prolonged dry spell.
”The district had registered Kharif sowing across 2.73 lakh hectares, with cotton accounting for 1.77 lakh hectares. However, due to severe moisture deficiency, crops withered, forcing farmers into a second round of sowing. This resowing has imposed an immense financial burden on the agrarian community. I will present a detailed report on the drought situation to the Chief Minister during the Cabinet meeting for further action,” Mr. Singh said.
Recalling his family’s long-standing connection with the district, Mr. Singh remarked on the legacy of his late father, former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh. “My father shared a deep bond with the people of Raichur during his tenure as the district in-charge Minister in 1999 and 2004. It is my privilege to serve the people whom my late father served,” he added. MP for Raichur G.
