Why Is Amarnath Yatra Being Suspended? • Recent rains: Heavy rainfall has affected vulnerable stretches of the Yatra tracks. • Track restoration: Repair and maintenance work is required on these stretches and is being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). • Adverse weather forecast: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted adverse weather conditions over the next few days. • Pilgrim safety: The suspension has been ordered to ensure the safety of pilgrims and allow restoration work to be carried out smoothly. • Both routes affected: The Yatra will remain suspended from August 9 on both the Chandanwari and Baltal routes. According to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, recent rains have created the need for repair and maintenance of vulnerable stretches of the Yatra tracks.

The restoration work is being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). In addition, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted adverse weather conditions over the next few days, prompting authorities to suspend the pilgrimage from both routes in the interest of pilgrims’ safety.
