The District Planning Committee (Ad-hoc) has granted official approval for the annual Plan amendments across all 85 local self-government institutions in the district. The decision covers a network of local bodies, including 68 grama panchayats, 11 block panchayats, four municipalities, the district panchayat, and the Kollam Corporation. District panchayat president R. Lathadevi has directed local authorities to take immediate steps to reduce spillover liabilities for projects approved by the planning committee for the 2026โ27 financial year.
She emphasised that priority has been assigned within the annual Plans to critical focus areas, including the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, scholarships for children with special needs, initiatives addressing school toilet shortages, and financial assistance for marriages and inter-caste marriages within SC/ST communities. She further urged local institutions that have allocated insufficient funds for the Jeevanam project to rectify the shortfall in the upcoming amendment cycle.
The committee has instructed the Kollam Corporation along with the Karunagappally, Kottarakkara, Punalur, and Paravur municipalities for completing and submitting their Plan amendments in a time-bound manner. Outlining the next operational steps, District Planning Officer Ullas J. said that projects receiving DPC clearance must undergo immediate
technical vetting before transitioning directly to the implementation phase. He instructed local authorities to convene Grama Sabhas promptly to draft and finalize beneficiary lists for targeted schemes, ensuring these are submitted to implementing officers, while joint projects are forwarded directly to the respective block and district panchayats.
