(Image: PTI) Delhi-NCR Rain Update: Heavy rain lashed the national capital and adjoining regions on Friday, disrupting normal life across Delhi-NCR. The downpour triggered waterlogging at several places and led to major traffic snarls, leaving commuters stuck on roads for hours. The heavy showers also disrupted cab services, with commuters reporting longer waiting times and difficulty securing rides as road conditions worsened.
Delhi-NCR continued to receive rain on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that the wet spell is not over yet. According to the latest IMD forecast issued on August 8, Delhi is likely to witness one or two spells of very light to light rain at many places, with moderate rain at a few places during the afternoon and evening. Another spell of light rain is likely during the night. The IMD’s subdivision-wise warning has placed Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi under a heavy-rain warning for both August 8 and August 9. However, no heavy-rain warning has been issued for Delhi from August 10 onwards. This means Sunday could still see rainfall, but the intensity of the weather is expected to ease from Monday. The IMD forecast for August 10 indicates generally cloudy skies, with one or two spells of very light rain possible during the afternoon and evening.
Similar light-rain spells may continue intermittently through August 14, but the heavy-rain warning ends after August 9. The latest spell has already brought significant rainfall to the capital. IMD data showed 98.7 mm of rain at Safdarjung in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Saturday. Palam recorded 104.6 mm, while Ayanagar received 115 mm during the same period. Delhi-NCR Rain Update: When Will Delhi Rain Stop? The intense spell is likely to ease after Sunday, August 9. From Monday, August 10, the IMD has issued no heavy-rain warning for Delhi, although occasional light showers may continue. For commuters, however, the weather could continue to cause some disruption. The IMD has warned of traffic slowdowns, increased chances of vehicle-related accidents and water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas. People have been advised to check traffic conditions before travelling and avoid routes that are prone to waterlogging.
