(Photo: PTI file) Amid the students’ agitation in Jharkhand over irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC examinations, a delegation of the protesting students on Saturday met the State government-appointed panel over the proposed demands. Led by student leader Devendra Nath Mahato, the JPSC-JSSC aspirants have been protesting at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda stadium against the irregularities in the recruitment examinations.
They have been seeking the cancellation of the 14th Civil Services Preliminary Examination conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) on July 2 along with broader educational reforms. An eight-member delegation from the protest group held a meeting with the government representatives at the State Guest House in Ranchi. While no breakthrough was achieved at the meeting, State Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu stated that the administration would continue its meeting with the students, according to NDTV. The Jharkhand government has launched an email ID –– JPSSC.feedback@gmail.com –– seeking suggestions and feedback from students. “We will continue to meet with various student groups and stakeholders. Additionally, we are releasing an email ID: JPSSC.feedback@gmail.com. Any student, individual, or stakeholder can send suggestions to this address, and we intend to formulate a reform policy and reach a collective decision based on everyone’s input. The government will take their concerns into account based on the emails received," the minister said.
On Friday, August 7, another group of protestors held discussions with the government panel. The delegation said that the government had assured it of an immediate decision to resolve the issues raised by students. However, it also announced that the agitation would continue until their demands were met. ‘Demands Remain Unchanged’ Devendra Nath Mahato, who has been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike to push for the demands of students, asserted that the government must fulfil them. “Had the government agreed to our demands when the other students met them, then it wouldn’t have been necessary for us to go as well. It doesn’t matter how many of us go to meet them. All of us have the same demands, which should be fulfilled," he said, according to NDTV. The protests in Jharkhand began on July 25, coinciding with the culmination of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the paper leak issue linked to NEET-UG 2026.
