Sealdah Division of the Eastern Railway expanded its footprint across the board by introducing 68 new passenger trains, 613 additional EMU trips and 1035 additional Mail/Express (TOD) trips The daily footfall in Sealdah Station, one of the biggest stations of the Eastern Railway has surpassed a million passengers daily in the year 2026. This comes after the Sealdah Division added 68 new passenger trains, and 613 EMUs (Electric Multiple Units) for passengers availing the railway network in the region. "Our ultimate goal in the Sealdah Division is to ensure that every passenger feels valued from the moment they arrive at the station until they reach their destination.

Whether it’s easing daily suburban commutes with AC locals, upgrading infrastructure under the Amrit Bharat scheme, or ensuring hassle-free entries with dedicated gates like the Central Gate, every step we take is focused on passenger comfort, safety, and modern convenience," said Rajeev Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah. With every new facility Sealdah Division continues to prove that public transport can be both ultra-efficient and deeply human-centric, he added. To break bottlenecks and bring immediate relief to lakhs of daily commuters, Sealdah Division recently unveiled the Prafulla Dwar as a vital fourth gateway for the passengers accessing the station. The move has decentralised passenger movement across the terminal.

Outfitted with modern booking counters, high-visibility Train Indication Boards, and ATVMs, it turned rush-hour chaos into a smooth, organised flow. Importantly, dedicated ramps were built to ensure complete accessibility and dignified travel for passengers with disabilities. Senior Railway officials of the division said that to take away guesswork out of daily travel and streamline passenger flow, a dedicated Platform Nomination System has been introduced at Sealdah Station. One of the highlights of the Sealdah Division has been introduction of Air-Conditioned local trains for busy suburban routes to cater to students, tourists and those seeking healthcare at Kalyani AIIMS. Beyond suburban travel, division expanded its footprint across the board by introducing 68 new passenger trains, 613 additional EMU trips and 1035 additional Mail/Express (TOD) trips, extending 26 existing services, and adding two new Mail/Express trains originating directly from Sealdah.
