Oil marketing companies have dismissed claims of contamination in E20 ethanol-blended petrol, stating that extensive testing showed no evidence of widespread issues. Out of over one thousand samples tested under surveillance across eighty distilleries, chloride levels remained well within prescribed specifications. Retail samples showed chloride levels between zero and three parts per million, far below invalid thresholds. While mandatory inspections cover nearly ninety thousand retail outlets nationwide, oil marketing companies confirmed isolated contamination at only four outlets, where supplies were immediately suspended.
Despite official assurances that petrol remains safe for use, opposition political parties have raised concerns regarding potential vehicle damage and financial impact on citizens, signaling plans to debate the matter when Parliament resumes. The government has defended the national biofuel blending program, maintaining that isolated cases are being taken out of context while confirming that robust testing protocols remain active across fuel stations.
