Police on Friday (August 7, 2026) conducted a cordon and search operation along with a long-range patrol in Jammu district as part of heightened security measures ahead of Independence Day, officials said. The operation, carried out under the jurisdiction of police post Chowki Choura, covered the stretch from Gala to Thorni, including the villages of Miyari, Juthal and Amb, with the active participation of Village Defence Guard (VDG) members, they said.
Officials said the area was thoroughly searched, but no suspicious person or incriminating material was found during the operation, which concluded peacefully. The police team also interacted with
residents at Thorni village and appealed to them to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious persons, activities or objects to the nearest police station. Police stressed the
importance of community participation in maintaining peace and security ahead of the Independence Day celebrations and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a strong security grid in the region.
