The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted parole to jailed brothers Ali Ahmad and Umar Ahmad, sons of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, allowing them to attend the funeral of their younger brother, Aban Ahmad, who died in a road accident. The order was passed by a division bench of Justices Ajay Bhanot and Divesh Chandra Samant on a petition filed by Atiq Ahmad’s sister, Parveen Qureshi.
She had sought permission for the two brothers to attend Aban’s burial. After being informed that the funeral would take place on Saturday morning, the court allowed both Ali and Umar to be released on parole for the last rites. Ali is currently lodged in Jhansi jail, while Umar is serving time in Lucknow jail. Aban Died In Jhansi Road Accident Aban Ahmad, 21, was killed on Thursday after the SUV he was travelling in crashed into a road divider in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district. His friend Sonu, 25, also died in the accident. According to police, Aban was travelling with his friends to meet his elder brother Ali at Jhansi jail when the accident took place. Three others travelling in the vehicle — Azam, Mohammad Javed and Umar — sustained injuries and were admitted to Jhansi Medical College. They were later shifted to Prayagraj by their families.
Aban’s body reached Prayagraj on Friday. Family members said he will be buried on Saturday morning at the Kasari-Masari graveyard. Burial Near Family Members’ Graves Preparations have been made for Aban’s burial near the grave of his father, Atiq Ahmad, at the Kasari-Masari graveyard. The graves of Atiq’s brother Ashraf and his son Asad are also located there. Aban was the youngest among Atiq Ahmad’s five sons. Family Has Seen Multiple Tragedies The Ahmad family has witnessed several high-profile deaths in recent years. In April 2023, Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad was killed in a police encounter near Jhansi. He was wanted in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal. Days later, on April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by three men posing as journalists while they were being escorted by police for a medical examination at a hospital in Prayagraj.
