A fresh incident of land subsidence caused widespread destruction in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Friday, as a large section of land caved in at Chhatabad area. The incident buried more than a dozen houses, left several others with massive cracks, and triggered panic among residents. A two-storey house completely sank into the ground during the subsidence, while multiple homes suffered severe structural damage.

Local residents immediately launched rescue efforts and safely pulled those trapped inside the damaged homes. Around a dozen people sustained injuries in the incident and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident sparked widespread anger among local residents, who gathered at the site and protested against Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and the district administration. Residents alleged that the area had remained vulnerable to land subsidence for a long time, but no concrete steps had been taken to ensure safety measures or rehabilitation.
Police, district administration officials and BCCL authorities reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and initiated relief and rescue operations. Authorities have cordoned off the affected area and are closely monitoring the situation. Ends
