The BJP has resolved to strengthen its presence among tribal communities across Andhra Pradesh, with a special focus on expanding the activities of its Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha and increasing its participation in the tribal areas during the upcoming local body elections. Speaking at the State Executive Committee meeting of the BJP ST Morcha at the party’s State office in Vijayawada on Friday, BJP State vice-president Garapati Sitaramanjaneya Chowdary (Tapana Foundation) said the party would work to reach every tribal household, irrespective of whether it was located in hilly or plain areas.
He said the BJP would coordinate with its NDA partners and intensify its organisational activities in tribal regions. Efforts would be made to strengthen the party’s network from the village level, while ensuring that government welfare programmes reached eligible beneficiaries. Chowdary called upon party workers to create greater awareness of Central government schemes and identify the problems faced by the tribal communities so that appropriate solutions could be found. Highlighting the welfare initiatives undertaken by the Union government, he said ₹24,000 crore had been allocated under the PM JANMAN scheme for the development of tribal areas across the country, and added that several projects were already under implementation in Andhra Pradesh.
He also said the Centre was strengthening Eklavya Model Residential Schools to improve educational opportunities for tribal students. According to him, more than 10,000 students were currently enrolled in these institutions in the State, while scholarships had been extended to thousands of tribal students. Chowdary further said the Stand-Up India scheme was helping tribal entrepreneurs obtain loans ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹1 crore, thereby encouraging self-employment and economic development. ST Morcha State president Pangi Rajarao, who presided over the meeting, said greater efforts were needed to ensure that tribal communities fully utilised the welfare schemes introduced by the Central government.
Several BJP leaders and office-bearers attended the meeting, which also featured cultural programmes showcasing traditional tribal art forms and folk performances.
