The accused have been identified as Amjad Hussain Laskar (20) from Rajnagar, Saddam Hussain Laskar (23) from Bhaga Bazar, and Rinku Das (25) from Khaspur.
All three are residents of Cachar district. According to police cited by NDTV, the case surfaced in the early hours of August 3 when the two girls reached Dholai Police Station at around 2.30 am and informed officers that they had been abducted and sexually assaulted. Additional Superintendent of Police (Cachar) Rajat Pal said the girls initially told police that the accused had attempted to rape them. However, during the course of the investigation, they alleged that they were gang-raped despite resisting. “They told us they had been abducted and initially stated that the accused attempted to rape them. They later alleged that they were gang-raped despite resisting. Since both claimed to be minors, we proceeded in accordance with the relevant legal provisions," Pal was quoted as saying.
POCSO, BNS Charges Invoked Police said the statements of both victims have been recorded, and they have undergone mandatory medical examinations. Following the completion of the initial legal formalities, the three accused were produced before a court. A case has been registered under Section 70(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (gang rape of a woman under 18 years of age), Section 87 (abduction), and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deals with aggravated penetrative sexual assault. Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
